Emergency boiler repair FAQs

The time it takes to repair a boiler depends on the extent of the problem and the repair that’s required. Simple repairs can take 1-2 hours, whilst more complex boiler repairs may take longer. However, our emergency boiler engineers always do their utmost to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. Available in as little as 1 hour and equipped with replacement parts to help expedite the repair process, your satisfaction is always our priority.

If your broken boiler is a risk to people or your property, then yes, you should call a qualified boiler repair engineer as soon as possible. Some instances where this is necessary is if you’re living with children, elderly or vulnerable people in the winter, as forgoing heating would be detrimental to their health and wellbeing.

Some of the most common signs of a broken boiler are:

  • Loss of heating and hot water
  • High or low water pressure
  • Visible leaking from the boiler
  • Frozen pipes
  • Blockages in the burner
  • Unusual loud noises (i.e. banging)
  • Carbon monoxide alarm being triggered
  • No pilot light or the flames are orange or yellow in colour when they should normally be blue.

If your boiler is working but isn’t performing optimally, we recommend booking a standard boiler repair. However, if your boiler breaks down and leaves your property without heating or hot water, we consider this a boiler emergency. Equally, if there’s a threat to health and safety, such as the smell of gas or your carbon monoxide alarm has alerted you, then you should call a qualified boiler engineer as soon as possible to carry out any repairs.

Whilst waiting for your boiler engineer to arrive, you should:

  • Turn off the boiler
  • Avoid using hot water or heating
  • If you suspect a gas leak, open the windows and turn the gas off at the mains if it is safe to do so
  • Locate your boiler manual and any service records

You can begin by resetting your boiler and checking the pilot light. You should refer to the manufacturer’s manual and follow the instructions to navigate the reset function. Resetting your boiler can often solve the issue, but if the problem persists, you should call a qualified boiler engineer. If your boiler has stopped working and you smell gas or your carbon monoxide alarm has alerted you, you need to call for an emergency boiler engineer immediately.
