Two teams of Pimlico Plumbers teed off with a host of celebrities at the Rhys Daniel Trust's latest charity golf day at the picturesque Brocket Hall course in Hertfordshire last week.
The 80 players warmed up with bacon rolls and coffee in the clubhouse as Rhys Daniels patron and Birds of a Feather actress Pauline Quirke got them organised into 18 teams, ahead of a 12.30pm shotgun start.
The tournament was a who's who of UK sporting and television personalities. Unsurprisingly footballers were well represented with England and AC Milan star Luther Blisset, and Arsenal's Lee Dixon and Perry Groves, all in the starting lineup. Not to be outdone the actors' roster boasted Dennis Waterman, Bobby Davro and Mike Osman.
Commenting on the day, Rhys Daniels Trust Chairman, Barry Daniels said "What a great day for all the teams taking part, and I am so pleased the sun was shining down on us all. The event was a great success towards our Southampton based ‘Home from Home' project."
For the record the winning team was led by long time Rhys Daniels supporter Alan Darlow; the best individual score of 41 points went to Bobby Davro, and the closest to the pin award went to Pimlico's own Gareth Tutton.
After their exertions on the golf course the players, their partners and other supporters of the charity retired to the nineteenth hole for dinner and a charity auction, which included the services of a Pimlico plumber for a day, hosted by Mike Osman.
Also playing in the tournament, which raised a total of £15,000 for the trust, and will be screened on SKY Sports TV later in October were ventriloquist Roger De Courcey, and footballers John Gregory (Aston Villa, QPR and Derby), John Moncur (Spurs and West Ham), and Don Goodman (Bradford, Sunderland and Wolves).
The Rhys Daniels Trust current has ‘homes away from home' at hospitals in Bristol, Liverpool, London, Birmingham, Surrey and Cardiff. The money raised by the golfers and at the charity auction will go towards the trust's latest project at the Children's Unit of Southampton General Hospital and the nearby Princess Anne Hospital.
