PIMLICO Plumbers has thrown its support behind new mayor Boris Johnson's call to get young people into rewarding careers through employer based training programmes.
Impressed with mayor Boris Johnson's enthusiasm for getting youngsters off the street and into work, Pimlico MD Charlie Mullins said: "It was reassuring to hear that he is so passionate about helping young people do something with their lives.
"So, when I heard the great news that he'd been elected, I had no hesitation in offering him Pimlico's expertise and full support to help develop youth training programmes, especially in the area of setting up apprenticeship academies.
During a visit to Pimlico Boris met trainees Billy Riches, 18, and Jamie Farrell, 20, from youth charity Prospex, who were learning to tell their U-bends from their elbows, at a training workshop, under the guidance of the firm's top engineers.
Describing the workshop as a ‘terrific way' of getting young people involved in ‘fulfilling and profitable' careers Boris promised to use his ‘Mayors Fund' to boost youth training.
He said: "I aim to raise millions from the wealth creators in London to invest in a wide range of voluntary sector projects and employers training programmes - projects that prevent young people being sucked into gangs and crime."
