Help A London Child Appeal 2008
18th April 2008
The lives of thousands of children across London will be made a little better thanks to Capital Radio's Help a London Child (HALC) appeal and a record breaking donation from Pimlico Plumbers.

The bidding at a charity auction to secure the right to host the Capital Breakfast show for a day was a ferocious affair, but when the hammer dropped Johnny, Denise and Co were again booked in to broadcast from Pimlico's depot.

On hearing the news Johnny Vaughan said: "I am overwhelmed that Pimlico have again pulled out all the stops for such a worthy cause."

The £50,000 bid will help the charity, which has raised more than £20 million over 30 years, to continue its work of eradicating poverty from the lives of some of London's most underprivileged children.

"We are very pleased we managed to get it at the last minute," said Pimlico Managing Director Charlie Mullins.  "We really didn't expect to win because there were some really fierce bids flooding in."

He added: "Everyone here is delighted by the fact that we have managed to raise this money for such a great charity.  We like to think of ourselves as being at the heart of the community, and as a London based company it's nice to be able to put something back through Help a London Child."

The winning bid means that later this year Johnny Vaughan, Denise Van Outen, and the rest of the Capital Breakfast team will be broadcasting their show live from Pimlico's headquarters.

Johnny said: "We are all looking forward to bringing the show down to Pimlico, and I just can't wait to see some of my old friends that I met last year."

Denise added: "I am really looking forward to coming down, Johnny has told me that it's a real family atmosphere down there, with lots of kids from the local schools turning up and joining in the fun - I can't wait!"

And to ensure the occasion lives up to Denise's expectations, Pimlico is planning to throw its doors open so all the local community can join in.

Charlie said: "Everybody is invited to the show; Capital listeners, local people young and old - everyone should come down and experience what will be a wonderful start to the day."

Since it was set up in 1975 HALC has benefited more than 10,000 small groups and charities, providing children with opportunities to lift them out of poverty and homelessness, and help them escape the effects of violence and abuse.

The Capital Breakfast Show will be broadcast from Pimlico's Sail Street depot in mid-September between 6 - 10am.  The exact date will be confirmed soon.
