Charlie Mullins, founder of Pimlico Plumbers and Britain's best-known plumber, has accused gas suppliers of robbing the public in response to British Gas today announcing a measly 7 percent.
Pimlico Plumbers handles over 1,200 plumbing and heating jobs every week in London.
"You'd imagine that British Gas knocking 7 percent off their prices would be good news for all my customers that are struggling to keep their energy costs down.
"But it seems they are making cash hand over fist, and with their £500 million profit about to become public knowledge, they are embarrassed at the amount they have been ripping people off by since 2008.
"This paltry price cut is an insult; it should be more like 40 percent and what's more, when they publish their profits there should be a massive rebate for all their customers.
"These firms have got to be forced to stop robbing the public. What is the Competition Commission really doing about this sort of behaviour? I know taking action against these companies would take ages and cost a fortune, but surely when all the big players in an industry hold prices up for two years that's a fix?
