Pimlico is making a stand and calling on the Government to back the apprentices of the future.
We have started a petition to campaign for the Government to support our apprentices and ensure their survival by backing UK businesses.
Apprenticeships play a vital role in the economy and when the recession finally recedes it will be critical that we have trained and experienced people within our core building trades. The construction and manufacturing industries have been hit hard, but if the downturn brings about the end of apprenticeships, then the country is at risk of a serious skills shortage in the future.
We have written to the Government to suggest they take an innovative approach to apprenticeships - one which could really help make a difference. Below are details of our scheme.
If you'd like to offer your support and give your backing to the campaign, then please add your details to our E-petition at the bottom of this page.
APS - Apprentice Proposal Scheme
- Turn ‘Job Seekers Allowance' into a Job Achiever's apprentice subsidy.
- Incentivise employers with a National Insurance Contribution holiday over all 3 years.
Sliding Scale Incentive for Employers
Year 1: Turn Job Seekers Allowance (approx. £48.00) into Job Achiever's Allowance. Employers would match it with an expenses contribution (£48.00).
Year 2: Job Achiever's Allowance cut to 50% (£24.00). Employers will match it (£24.00) + the expenses contribution (£48.00). At this point the employer is paying 75% of costs.
Year 3: Employers to cover apprentice's costs 100%, with only the NI Contribution holiday as a company incentive.
Year 4: The apprentice is now an employee with earning potential - and a tax payer!
- The government could offer greater incentives to companies the longer a job seeker has been out of work, on the grounds that the company's retraining/costs/involvement would be higher.

I need an apprenticeship to get into Level 2 of the course but it is very difficult to find anything. Any help would be appreciated, thankyou.
- I have passed my NVQ 2 in heating and ventilation, Domestic gas installation and maintenance level2 and about finish have had a job on with a plumbing firm but the contract finished and i now struggle to get with a plumbing firm due to my lack of experience and im now on benifits, i think this proposal would be a fantastic opportunity for people like myself and many other people to gain the experience they need and keep people in the building trade. hoping to get into level 3 in Sep 2010 to become either gas or plumbing I have both I also want contribute 1000+ just become a gas register
- I currently in college studying NVQ 2 Heating and Ventilation, now I looking for an apprenticeship with your company. I am hardworking, well motivated and reliable. My future plan is to be successful plumber.
- I have passed my NVQ 2 in heating and ventilation, and have had a job on with a plumbing firm but the contract finished and i now struggle to get with a plumbing firm due to my lack of experience and im now on benifits, i think this proposal would be a fantastic opportunity for people like myself and many other people to gain the experience they need and keep people in the building trade.
- , Im on a level 2 C&G Plumbing Course, and hoping to get into level 3 in Sep 2010. but i think it would a good choice for me to join with a good plumbbing company like yourself. I very reliable always on time to where ever i have to be and really wants to become a plumbber in the future
- I am a careers co-ordinator at a school and find it nearly impossible to get companies to place students on apprenticeships. I have many students every year asking for apprenticeships and I am lucky if 1 secures most end up studying in college withour a placement.
- If only all companies were like you. I am like so many young people trying to make their way in life but are thwarted by the lack of experience. I have completed my plumbing training at BTSC Chessington but cannot complete my NVQ because no one has the time or the will to give work experience. My parents have paid £16K for the training and it is fast looking like wasted money.
- My son is due to finish his first level plumbing in the summer and is finding it impossible to find a plumber to take him on for his next part of his training so he ca then go on to become fully qualified - what can he do? It seems ridiculous to have all these young people in education but will be unable to become qualified due to lack of apprenticeship places. Most de motivating. Any suggestions Gordon???
- I am backing this petition, I got city & guild level 1& 2in plumbing studies and for 8 months am out of job even though am qualified and i can do my job with perfection i still can find a job. I have been for more than ten interview i never have an offer but one day i will have the right one. M L MACAULEY
- Formal apprenticeships are vital to the survival of the skilled trades workforce in the UK. They provide a young person with a sound training, a sense of achievement and skills for life.
- i fully support this petition as my partner is in the same postion as alot of you it seams like our government do not want us to move on they just want us to make do which is ashame because there are people on jsa that really want to work and earn good money but are stuck and we just need that extra push .
- I think i'm in a similar situation as alot of the people that have written on here I think it's a fantstic idea I also completed my NVQ 2 and 3 and have not been able to find a apprenticeship to get me started and the job centre do not seam to want to help find me a career in that field they are happy to let me go to work in a dead end job that in the long term will not be benefical to myself or family . I would like to do a job that will better myself and I think it's fantastic that you company is taking that step to help people like me .Thanks
- ive just completed my level 2 in plumbing and i need the experience, but cant find anyone to take me on because theres no funding for companys to do so i cant get my nvq, with out working on site so i do surpport this petition,
- I fully support the need to give young people a chance of getting them into the workplace where they will be learning key skills and getting a future career.
- I'm the proprietor of a small garden services company in London. This scheme reflects my thoughts on such "benefits". I believe the greatest way to learn a trade is through an apprenticeship, certain things just can not be learnt from a book. However modern business costs make employing apprentices uninviting for employers. This scheme would teach job seekers a trade, which will mean that they will never be without work in the future. Needless to say this will have a greater effect on the economy long term. We need to combat the deficit of national income tax revenue to national benefits paid out. As a country we have concentrated on academia and we need to start investing in trades again. If this scheme were to pass, I would be the first employer to take on apprentices. Im not critisising college courses but I must add that this is only half of learning a trade. The government cannot expect employers to wholely fund teaching people the other half of performing their trade. Luke Smith Bedmal-Green www.bedmal-green.co.uk luke@bedmal-green.co.uk
- I was lucky to be self employed with gaining hands on experience with a employed Plumber by the name of Jason Lane The Clean Plumber and worked with Jason on a 3-4 month contract.Fantastic experience from initially spending nearly 3k on a eighteen month home study and practical away weeks in NVQ level 2 plumbing covering bathroom installation and sanitary and some aspects of heating.Had to find another job as there was nothing going other than Corgi(at that time) and I hadn't got the emans to justify the expense what with the economy hit by recession.Things may be looking more positive if this petition is taken seriously by the big wigs! I have written to government and including Gordon Brown and the department for business in recent months! Best of luck to you also!
- I have completed the 6129 tech certificate, all i need now is the expirience.
- My son is interested in becoming a plumber, but there are no apprenticeships for young people with ambition, drive and want to work. I fully support this petition.
- I like the idea of this Seems to benefit all involved i was a late Starter in plumbing. I gave up a secure job to do it the goverment gave me no help i had to find my own apprenticeship lucky for me i did and manage to complete in june 2009 with a full apprenticeship. so Charlie remember my name because in june 2014 i will be giving you a call.
- Hi, I passed my City & Guilds 6128 Level 2 in December & it is proving difficult to find a position without any current experience. - I did an apprenticeship in the 1980's at Ford, best thing that ever happened to me. 26 years later still with the same company. They still run an apprentice scheme at CEME. Give kids a chance, a decent wage while training and skills that will stay with them for life.

- Great Idea for all who want apprenticeships.
- Hi im on a level 2 plumbing course at shooters hill college and have been looking for apprenticeships for a while and im at college 4 days a week, looking to go onto an apprenticeship scheme, so it would be a good idea for pimlico to give oppurtunities for young people living in london to become plumbers.
- I think this petition is a great idea, the government should get behind the young ones and help them get a decent career....Ive done level 2 and 3 in plumbing which i completed flying colours and during that i constantly tried to get an apprenticeship and still havent got one. What is the point in doing a course at college when you cant find apprenticeships to help you??
- Im working in a five star hotel, The Royal Garden Hotel as a Night Concierge. Im studying my NVQ 2 Plumbing at Lambeth College on my off days and would like to work for Pimlico Plumbers once I finish.I hope it will be a turning point in my life.
- I am currently studying for my level 2 GNVQ in Plumbing and am at college 2 days per week. Finding a part-time job which will widen my experience and support my studies in near-on impossible, leaving many young (and old) people on Job Seeker's allowance. This petition would significantly change my oppertunities to move forward, get upskilled and learn a valuable trade which would last me a lifetime and not leave me claiming job seekers allowance whilst at college, because companies cannot afford to take me on. I will not be able to gain my GNVQ level 3 without an apprenticeship, and I have contacted over 40 companies so far without any oppertunities arrising. I am skilled, intelligent, and have good inter-personal skills, and need the industry experience to take the next step with my career. I am hard-working and have aspired to work for Pimlico Plumbers for many years now. Please contact me as soon as a position becomes available, as i'd give 110% enthusiasm and effort to every given day.
- A good idea.
- I'm currently doing a level 2 diploma In site carpentry, so far i have hung doors & fitted windows, made studd work framing, cladding, pipe boxing in, and done a bit of roofing. to do level 3 i need an apprenticeship, and my tutor suggested Pimlico, and i've also heard great things, so an apprenticeship with pimlico would be excellent!

- EGAR's work is about the personal development, decisions and consequences of teenagers and young people. We are supporting young lives and have two young volunteers at EGAR. I have just heard that the young people on Jobs Seekers will now only get this benefit if they are placed into job placements through companies offering this new scheme.
- I am currently doing my City & Guilds 6129 Technical Certificate Level 2 and really struggling to find a company or Plumber to take me on. This new scheme sounds brilliant and should benefits most of us struggling to find work.

- im at college now on my second year and finding it very hard to find an apprenticeship
- I have just completed my City & Guilds 6129 technical certificate and looking to serve a full apprenticeship. - I am the Resettlement Officer at the Kensington and Chelsea Volunteer Centre, as well as getting the prisoners into Voluntary work I also search for paid employment, and at the moment I am trying to obtain an apprenticeship in Plumbing for one of the guys, and I cannot believe how hard it is, I was under the impression the government were promoting apprenticeships, and as a result there would be plenty on offer.
- Im am 17 and im im currently doing a level 2 plumbing course and I am looking to become an apprentice untill I am fully qualified
- I have recently completed Level 2 & 3 theory and practical & I am having no luck finding a company to complete the NVQ3 with. I have tried agencies, writting directly to companies even cold calling. The idea put forward above sounds great, why is this not done already ?
- studing level 2 plumbing, then continuing to level 3. will it be worth-while, if the jobs just arent there??
- This is a good incentive for the unemployed like myself on Jobseekers and will build the Countries work force
- I think this is a great idear. Could you please inform me when you will be recruiting apprentices for 2010, thank you.
- i totally agree with you , I have written so many letters to companies ect, it is totally disheartening

- That could be a great opportunity for the young people which are willing to learn the trade.
- ive been doing a home plumbing course studying towards a nvq level 2 and just completed 2 weeks practicals recently, im trying now to find a plumber to work for which is realistically the only way forward for me and i think im gonna really struggle to find someone but if i cant then im gonna struggle to get the course completed at all, with 4 more weeks practicals my holidays for next year wont even cover that....plz plz any plumbers out there give a hardworking man his lucky break...my email is johnsports@live.co.uk
- My son is in year 11 and wants to become a plumber and he would prefer to be able to do this through an apprenticeship but because of the lack of apprenticeships we are struggling to get him a placement. The Government needs to do more for the youngsters and apprenticeships are a great idea.
- i realy suport this petition because iv been trying to become a plumber for about 2yrs now an theres no help out there for ambitiouse ppl. you have my full suport
- i am looking for an electircal apprentiship i am attending acton college at the minute on level two and i am hoping to work for a big company and succesful company like your self
- I have been to college and done my Level 2 and 3 and have been through absolute hell begging companies to take me on as a plumber's mate. I have told them they will not have to pay me a penny and I will bring my own lunch money. Eventually I even said to companies and self-employed plumbers that I will even pay them out of my own pocket but still I get a big no from them.
- i realy suport this petition because iv been trying to become a plumber for about 4yrs now an theres no help out there for ambitiouse ppl. you have my full suport
- I was blessed to work with some great guys when I did my apprenticeship, not only did they teach me 'one on one', they showed me how to respect people & so much more. I've run my Plumbing business for over 30 years, trained many young people & I know the current system is not working for young kids. Thanks Charlie for your help.
- i think that tis i a great idea i have a brother who is do pluming nvq leval 2 and he is very focesed about being a plumer and this would e a great way for him to do his thing .
- Great idea our young people need something, But i cant see it working as our government cant see further than the nose on their face. We should have trainee MP's because all the MP's be it LAB, CON or whoever are a law unto themselves
- - Hello Sir/ Madam My names Robert Barker I am currently studying Plumbing Level 2 at North West Kent College in Gravesend, Kent. At the end of my course I will have attained The City and Guilds 6129 Technical Certification in plumbing. Just woundering when you next are recruiting for 2010? Thank You Very Much Robert Barker
- dear Sir/Madam, I'm about to start a plumbing course with MPower training ltd. I am looking to become an apprentice in your company until I become a fully qualified plumber. I'm 31 y.o. , married with children and I have experience working in construction industry. I would very much appreciate if you will give me a chance to put theory into practice. Kind regards, George Poliakov
- I am 19 years of age and am currently studying a part time city and guild technical certificate level 2 in plumbing at Hackney community college. I was wondering when you will be recruiting apprentices.thank you.
- Need more apprenticeships.
- The goverment must back it's statistics about a shortage of plumbers, etc. rather than just allowing 'fast track' training centres to use the shortage figures to entice people to sign up but who will have little prospect of getting relevant work after they've completed the course due to a lack of experience.
- o witter

- im only 18 and finding it impossible to get a apprenticeship in any trade
- I have 6 months experience as an apprentice plumber but it unfortunately has fallen through. I am determined to learn and have good self motivational skills. I also have my own vehicle for transport.
- I think this could really make a change because it is really hard to found a apprentice at the moment in this time of the ression not alot of company are taking on young people this would really help and this could help me found the apprentice which i need.
- I think this i very logical idea and as a small business owner i fully support it. In fact, i would be grateful if you contacted me charlie as i would like to discuss other options with you. I believe you have my details. I look forward to hopefully hearing from you.
- As well as conventional apprenticships we need to encourage the large number of univesity grads who cannot get a job to retrain in applied engineering by doing NVQL3s. Our business needs their energy, drive and organisational skills. They need practicle business experiance.
- I am 20 years of age and have been looking for and apprenticeship in Plumbing for over 2 years now since completing my City and Guilds level 2 Technical Qualification in Plumbing, I know Pimlico would be a very good and reputable company to work for to further my career as a plumber.
- my name is christopher a bsc building services graduate. Am currently taking a domestic gas installation and maintenance course in order to get a further understanding of the practical side of the field. This is a one day course per week. For this reason am looking for work as an apprentice because the rest of the week am seated home doing nothing.
- I am keen on pursuing a career in plumbing and I believe that Pimlico Plumbers is one of the best companies that will provide a top quality training for apprentices
- my name is stephan and im on my last module on my btsc course and im finding it really hard to find a job/apprentaship in plimbing. it would b an honer to join pimlico plimbers i would love for that oppertunity to arrise.
- I am seeking an apprenticeship with a future such as Pimlico Plumbers but feel disheartened by the current employment situation. I wish you all the luck with this petition.
- hi my name is mchael shaw i am 21. I am workin as an Apprentice plumber and am looking to get a better job as am being muckt about with my pay have been doing plumbing for about 2 years now have all my own tools, and have a full uk driving licence. t would be nice to here from you soon. thanks for your time
- my son is leaving school next year and would welcome an oppourtunity to join pimlico plumbers as an apprentice and further his career within the plumbing industry.
- If the goverment really wants to help people/trade people back into work apprenticeship schems like this should be at the top of the to do list it will help to get alot of people/trade people of JSA & back into work.
- my grandad son his in his 3 rd year doing a college course he now must go on a 13 week new deal to find work by the goverment and can not carry on with the course what rubbish is that??? no expericene people of the future
- Its really hard to find apprenticeships at the moment. I have been looking for over 2 years now. Anything the government can do to help will be useful.
- I think this is a great idea - there are far too many applicants for apprenticeships and nowhere near enough places. Anyone who wants training should be allowed the opportunity for it.
- I am a 38 year old man who has worked all his life in the warehouse enviroment now i find myself claiming j.s.a but guess what i am doing something about it i am putting myself through college 2 evenings a week to become a plumber i think the goverment need to look at what pimlico are trying to achieve here lets get people back into work with training dont pay people to sit on their bum all day get them training get me training i want my dignity back and i will get it back but lets all sign this petition to help people like me who want to train to gain something good in their lives
- Fantastic idea, let's get more people into work and training!
- please ,can you send me more information about plumbing and electrician apprentice courses or works.
- perfect idea i have been trying to do a apprenticeship for years with out any success and think its about time the goverment sorted this out and stop using foriegn labour when they could train and learn people in this country who want to do these kinds of work.
- I would like to apply for the apprenticeship programme, I'm 16 yrs old.
- Great idea
- Fantastic Idea! I would be sure to employ apprentices if this was to be introduced. I am a firm believer of training and apprenticships and feel the same, we as a company of high quality struggle to find good well trained tradespeople and this would be great for future employees.
- I'm currently looking for an apprenticeship and it's very difficult even when i've got experience. Pimlico Plumbers could give a lot of young people great education in a field. Goverment supose to look at the good side and guarantee tradesmen for the future.
- Saw the article in Sunday Times.Unbelievable that no Government Minister can find the time to meet Charlie & discuss what must be a real, workable and sensible approach to tackling youth unemployment - and provide a skilled workforce for the future.
- plain common sense, as all the best ideas are! Most politicians are too caught up with their own self importance to listen to anyone else. Ill certainly back this idea though!
- I am very interested in a plumbing apprenteship to help successfully fulfil my career in plumbing. I am hoping this wonderful idea of the pimlico apprenteship will help me with all the hands on training i need. I already have City and Guilds heating and ventilation level 2 certificates. I think this is a really good idea as there are just not enough good plumbing apprenteships around in london.
- Even if the Government feels unable to positively support the Construction Industry, it must allow the Industry, via individual trade representation, to offer career building opportunities. Apprenticeships are the best if not the only way to achieve this. Training levies and forcing workers into casual cash-in-hand work is not a substitute for employer based bona fide Apprenticeships.
- There should be more help foe people that want to get a trade i have been trying for 3 years to get back into it!! i dont understand why thay make it so hard!! Take care of the people that were born here first!!
- Apprenticeships are usually the first to suffer in poor economic conditions. Yet it is critical for the future that we try and champion the cause of training apprentices. Keep up the good work!
- I agree 100 % . But Charlie.. Do you take on apprentices.Cant see anything like that on your website .. Would be great if you did. Alan
- im anoyed there isnt enough apprenticeships as im starting my levle 2 carpentry in september and in desperate need of an apprenticeship!!
- I have recently left my high school, and I am awaiting my GCSE. When I go to college I am goin to study level 2 plumbing studies. I just think that to learn a trade is the future for all young people from today. I hope that everybody studying a trade gets where thier going.
- What a fantastic idea, Charie, with you need to run for parliament!!
- I think this is an excellent idea! I am also looking for an apprenticship and I am finding it really hard as no one can take me on. I am going back to college to do my tech certificate 3, if any one has any idea of where to find an apprentice i would be grateful for any help any one has to offer. sophie.c.25@hotmail.co.uk
- Excellent idea. My son is doing a plumbing course at college and have been on/off employed by a small plumbing company for almost two years now. However, as a result of recent economic situation, the on/off situation has become more regular. consequently, his college assessment on the job is at risk. I do hope that the Government will applaud your Company's great idea and fast tract it into action to enable apprentices like my son to access hands on experience in order to complete and achieve a worthwhile qualification to provide a better service within this industry. I hope your company will on being successfull, be in a position to consider my son for a placement on your apprenticeship programme.
- With you 100%
- This looks like a very straight forward solution to a rather rediculous sinario.
- I think this is a fantastic idea. Hope it goes ahead as I have been looking for an apprenticeship over the past year and it is almost impossible to get one.
- Great idea - teach kids how to work before you tech them how to earn.
- I'm 17years of age looking for a plumbing apprenticeship for my NVQ 2, if any one can either email me dashie-sw1@hotmail.com or call me. Thanks
- I am trying to get an apprenticeship and it seems impossible. This is a great idea.
- This is an excellent idea. My son has left school and applied for countless apprenticeship places in Plumbing, with a scheme like this him and thousands of other young people would have much more of a chance.
- I need a placement to do my plumbing NVQ level 2! Help! The Goverment are making it ever so hard!! for new people Like me, entering the trade!
- There is very little incentive at the moment with no apprenticeship opportunities available. it is a brilliant idea!
- To get Britain booming again we need to keep our skill base high (for the young and older ones) and put a restriction on importing and exporting, to get the jobs back into this country for our own people! Charity begins at home!
- My nephew tried very hard to be taken on as an apprentice. After too, too many disappointing shut doors, he has left the country and gone over to Australia. The idea given here sounds sensible and to be effective.
- Keep up the good work!
- Noble idea indeed. As a new company in the plumbing industry and realising the massive scope for re-engineering of the entire plumbing system to improve efficiency and sustainability, more innovative apprenticeship programmes are the way forward. With you 100%
- Without these apprentices how are people expected to train and get qualifications to do these essential jobs
- My son is a newly qualified plumber and needs a company to take him on to show him the ropes so to speak but he finds it impossible to get with anyone its really sad and annoying! So this looks to be a great idea why doesnt anyone want to take our young people on they are the future.
- My 18 year old son is just about to finish his second year at college, due to the lack of apprentice schemes he will be unable to attend college for the last year as this is for guys that have gained employment within the industry. Give the youngsters that want to make a career in the construction industry a chance to get recongnised formal training while gaining valuable experience.
- As someone who would appreciate a place on an apprenticeship, then I would be extremely sorry to see the end of apprenticeships which allow anyone to train as a skilled worker
- Great idea!
- a clever idea with great benefits to all concerned
- Yes excellent idea, making a realistic investment in skills for the future
- great idea. I need something like this to take the next step.
- Totall agree the government should be doing more to help youngsters .they are pushing them into Training and then leaving them on the scrap heap when they finish
- Fabulously simple and straightforward. Using Job Achievement in the title really sets the tone.
- An excellent idea, investing money in encouranging achievement, pride in oneself and self-reliance, and giving the UK a skilled workforce for the future
- I have recently been made redundant after finishing my first year of my apprenticeship, I am looking to get into employment before the start of my second year to carry on and appreciate petitions such as this to try get employers to give us apprentice and opportunity, if any such employer should read this my e-mail address in j_henderson_1@hotmail.com
- I think this is a really good idea as it is really hard to get a job as an apprentiship/trainee plumber at the moment. I am half way through my level 3 plumbing technical certificate and i can not get in with a company so i can start on NVQ2, So i think this scheme will help a lot.
- Great Idea, let's hope industry gets well and truly behind it and forces goverment to listen.
- A good idea. Currently looking to do an apprenticeship as an plumber at the moment but havent been able to find anybody to do it with, anyone thats looking here is my e-mail, david_nguyen@hotmail.co.uk
- I think it is a brilliant idea, and I hope its gets successful. As I am desperately looking to be an apprentice with a company like yoursleves. All the best and good luck.
- I think it is a very good idea, My son is going to be leaving school in June and is looking to become an apprentice in Plumbing and heating. Hopefully he will be successful with a company like yours.
- I support your scheme, I truly believe we need to to motivate different people.I'm studying for my NVQ level 2 & 3 at the moment and i'm hoping for a stepping stone into the business but I cannot find any apprenticeships. The government should back these schemes were a newly qualified or soon to be qualified apprentice can build foundations and even imporve the foundations of this great nation. Leon, South-east London
- We fully support the proposed apprenticeship scheme. We have been also proposing a comprehensive, self-financing 4-year Apprenticeship Scheme linked to our proposed not-for profit Initaitive Symbiosa Alliance - see www.symbiosa.org. If you are intersted, we would be pleased to discuss how we could work togetehr.
- Fantastic idea, it will give a chance for people like me, young apprentices.
- I support your scheme and views. We need to motivate unemployed people and young people to become qualified in the traditional trades. We are must encourage this initiative. Nick Corney. London
- I attend College doing a 2 year part time course but my present employer has work on odd days so I really need regular full time work or I will loose m college place it's about time young people that want to work, get a skill and be of use to this country got help from the goverment that promised so much to us when part of the manifest was education, education, education haven't we been let down !!
- Good luck with the petition i hope it all goes well. I am happy someone is finally doing something about this on going problem for apprenticeships. i have been looking for work for about 6 months but i have finally found some work via an agency. Thanks again if there is any more i can do to help please let me know i am more than happy to help. K.Scanlon
- My son jake has recently completed a 17 week course in plumbing, which resulted in gaining a c&g qualification. However he cant get an apprenticeship or employment.I thought the olympic games would help with employment?
- Well done Pimlico Plumbers. I am student studying Plumbing at Nescot and can't get anyone to give me a chance to get any hands on experience. I really hope this will give openings to people studying for a career.
- I think its a brilliant idea ! im coming from the young un-employed side of board, ive completed my nvq level three in carpentry and have hardly used the knowlegde. This should be taken care of when the young tradesman leaves the colleges the government happily advertises and should have a possition waiting when he/she leaves college. I believe the government should back these kind of scheme if not i WILL backfire on them.
- Currently unemployed. Studying plumbing at Nescot College nearing completion of 1st year.2nd yr starts in September. Have been offering my services for free in that I'm prepared to work as a plumbers mate 1 or 2 days a week free of charge-however have had no luck in being taken on. My 2nd year at Nescot involves all the practical work & so it would be great to be able to get more hands on experience with a well known company such as Pimlico Plumbers.
- A good idea. Currently looking to do an apprenticeship as an electrician at the moment but havent been able to find anybody to do it with, anyone thats looking here is my e-mail, jon_jon5750@hotmail.com!
- I very keen to do an apprenticeship with your company. Will be a fantastic experience to improve my skills. i hope that you consider me. thanks
- ive been seeking a Plumbing Apprenticeship for the last 3yrs ive completed my City&Guilds Lv 1 & 2 but couldnt do Lv 3, because you need a work placement and they are very very rear to come across unless you have a family member/frend who are willing to take you on, but not many people got that. ps Apprentice scheme are the way forward

- excellent idea. we need great apprentices to begin the recovery and development of this fine nation
- Well done Pimlico Plumbers! Apprenticeships are vital, my nephew is two years into a plumbing course at South Thames College but, no one will take him on to gain valuable experience. He is even willing to work for next to nothing!
- My Son is continuing to attend his plumbing course 1 day a week to complete his NVQ Level 2 but unfortunately he was made redundant from his apprenticeship at the end of February. This is a great idea!
- This scheme would be very useful for me as a trainee plumber looking for employment and to lots more people. I hope our voices are herd!
- This is a fantastic plan, and I am 100% behind it. I am 20 years old out of work currently seeking employment as a Plumber/Apprentice and companies say that they cannot afford to take me on, even with the apprenticeship pay being more than half minimum wage. This leaves me no hope. Sean Howley. Hertfordshire, UK
- A great idea. Good luck with the proposal

- My son is currently looking for a plumbing apprenticeship but is finding it incredibly difficult.
- We will support you!! check out our site "www.notgoingtouni.co.uk" a great place to find an apprentice lets get the govt to play fair for a change....

- Brill Idea!!! Just what Great Britain needs to become GREAT again... A more honest hard working nation.....
- My career was kick started by an apprenticeship and I would like my son to have the opportunity to apply for a place. The adverts on the TV by Sir Alan has raised expectations but there are just not enough places available.
- Good idea to prevent a skills drought in the future.
- Great Idea, Charlie! I run a small electrical contractors in the midlands. Apprentices can be a financial burden to begin with, despite my wanting to pass on experience to the next generation. Government funded apprenticeships would get people off the dole and into training. Let's face it - nobody should get money for nothing.
- We are currently looking to train an apprentice service engineer - a stumbling block has been cost - THIS IS A FANTASTIC IDEA!
- I'm looking for an apprenticeship in plumbing, so any help and support in finding one would be excellent.
- Apprentices are our future. UK plc needs skilled and motivated individuals trained to industry standards.
- Apprentices are the future - without them the skills gap will be immense
- Apprenticeships are the way forward for young people of today, to enable them to have good future work prospects by learning a very valuable trade.
- I am an NVQ assessor and College Lecturer and serverd my apprentiship in the 60's its the only way forward
- i would like to apply for an apprenticeship with your company.
- great idea! --It would encourage businesses to take on more apprentices
- Great idea, I was an apprentice and wouldn't have been able to build a career and learn new skills while earning money without it. My brother also needs an apprenticeship, so get your finger out Gordon!
- The motivational title change, leads the incentive as to why such a scheme needs to be introduced creating a challenging but rewarding scheme for all parties concerned. What underpins such a fantastic idea is the fact that this would through hard work and determination create an individual with a qualification/skill to PAYE or challenge the self employed market. The Companies involved, in any organisation, are always willing to invest in good people and retain an asset, and thus keeping the economics balanced.
- Exellent idea!
- This would give a small company like my own a chance to take on a new apprentice and share our knowledge.
- i am finishing off my level 2 at lewisham college and need to get experience in the trade.

- Firms need to look to the future and train for growth - get real and be positive - look to the future and support our home grown talent!
- I think its great proposal for biggner and to beat the recession,
- I couldn't agree more with this proposal - how the hell are we going to recover from this recession without the skilled workers ready to pull us through?
- Great idea, one that gains our full support.
