The Premier League hasn't even kicked off yet but last night there was a huge shock result when the Pimlico office teamed up with the carpenters to stuff the plumbers 5-1 at Battersea Park. Some great action, with notable performances by the lads from accounts [Nick and Chris] creating an almost impenetrable barrier, with Fletch in goal, clearing up anything that managed to sneak through.
From what I hear from my sons Samm and Scott, the respective team captains, there's likely to be a rematch some time soon, so if you recognise a Pimlico Plumber hitting the hills somewhere near you, that'll be the thought of victory in the rematch driving them on! Well done fellas.
Pictures to follow soon!
A few weeks ago I received some very bad news. One of my guys, Dave Johnson, who's been on the company over 16 years was diagnosed with cancer. Dave's been ill with the disease before and managed to beat it, but it's returned.
Dave's a real popular member of the team, a real gent, one of the best, and all his mates at work (plumbers and office staff) have rallied round to put on a benefit football match for him and his family. It's next Sunday (August 22) and will see Pimlico take on a side put together by our insurers Courtprice Ltd.
Fletch, who's organising the whole thing tells me it's a whole family day with a bouncy castle for the kids and a penalty shoot-out and other fun, games and entertainment. All I can say is well done to everyone for getting behind this event, it really shows just what sort of a fella Dave is that people are moved to put on something like this.
The match will be at Champion Hill Stadium
Home of Dulwich Hamlet FC
Edgar Kail Way
Dog Kennel Hill
SE22 8BD
The day starts at 11, with kick off at 2pm - entry is Adults £5.00, Children £3.00
All monies raised will be going to Dave and his family, and anyone who knows Dave is welcome to attend.
Unemployment's down by 49,000 - that's got to be good news right? Even the youth figure is lower by 16,000 [not much of a drop since it's still almost a million but something positive!]. But then it looks like two out of every three of new jobs are part time, and 77% of the newly employed are immigrants. So, what does that little lot tell you?
For one thing it confirms to me that there's too much incentive for people to stay on benefits because like the shameless bunch of scroungers featured on page 12 and 13 of today's Sun, they are happy, and better off skimming off the hard work of those of us.
So my answer is that I think it's mostly bad news, since with all the scroungers and others out of work for one reason or another, we now have 9.35 million people classed as 'economically inactive', that's a lot of potential workers not putting anything back into the pot [which as we know all too well is empty].
Things have got to change, and thankfully George and Co are on the job.
Just when I though Gordon Brown's Labour government had disgusted me for the last time their greed and arrogance has managed to repulse me again. I just cannot believe that after everything that has gone on with MPs putting their snouts in the public trough that former cabinet ministers, including those who are candidates for the leadership of the Labour party, took severance payments of £20,000 each! Is it just me or did these people just get handed a bloody big bung for being useless? Is it any wonder they bankrupted the country if their idea of managing money is paying people off for being judged a failure at their jobs by their employers. That's us by the way, for certain politicians who seem to forget such things from time to time!
I'm backing Baroness Warsi 100% in her call for these immoral people to pay back this money - they should be ashamed of themselves, but clearly they are not.
