ITV News: Supreme Court Ruling Was A Poor Decision
Thursday 14th June 2018
It's fair to say in my debate with Hannah Reed, my passion for this case is quite evident. Yesterday's ruling has left me extremely disappointed and frustrated. Employment law is very unclear, and I was hopeful that we could all get some clarity from the Supreme Court on this situation, which I have already said will have huge implications for many industries, including plumbing and construction.
It however doesn't stop there either; the UK is going through a huge cultural change in how people work, and how they are paid, and what we need more than anything else here is a ruling that takes into account what is happening on the building sites, offices, press rooms and hospital wards of the 21st century, not one that harks back a to the 1950s.
This was a poor decision that will potentially leave thousands of companies, employing millions of contractors, wondering if one day soon they will get nasty surprise from a former contractor demanding more money, despite having been paid in full years ago. It can only lead to a tsunami of claims.
